Used to

Meaning & Form (Arti & bentuk)

It’s used to talk about a past situation that is no longer true. It tells us that there was a repeated action or state in the past which has now changed.

(Digunakan untuk menceritakan situasi masa lampau yang tidak lagi benar. Menjelaskan tentang aksi yang berulang atau kondisi di masa lampau yang mana sekarang telah berubah)

 
Secara singkat di dalam bahasa indonesia kita bisa artikan sebagai kata “dulu” atau “dulu biasanya” “dulu biasa.”

Rules (Aturan/Pola) :

Kalimat positif :

Subject + Used + to infinitive (to+kata kerja 1)

Contohnya (For examples) :

I used to go to the beach when I was a kid

(aku dulu biasa pergi ke pantai ketika kecil).

He used to love me, but not anymore

(Dia dulu mencintaiku, tapi enggak lagi).

They used to live with my family, now they have their own house.

Mereka dulu biasa tinggal dengan keluargaku, sekarang mereka punya rumah sendiri.

Kalimat negatif :

Subject + did not/didn’t + use + to infinitive

For Examples (contohnya) :

I didn’t use to eat spicy food when I was younger, but I love it now.

(Aku dulu tidak biasa makan makanan pedas ketika masih mudaan, tapi sekarang aku suka banget.

Before I got a job, I didn’t use to wake up early.

 (sebelum aku dapat pekerjaan, aku tidak biasa bangun pagi)

He didn’t use to smile at me. Now he smiles at me every time he meets me.

Dia dulu tidak biasa tersenyum padaku. Sekarang dia tersenyum padaku setiap kali bertemu

Kalimat Introgatif :

Did + subject + use + to infinitive

For Examples :

Did you use to come here as a child?

Apa dulu kamu biasa datang kesini saat kecil?

Did he use to fetch you before?

 (Apa dulu dia biasa menjemputmu sebelumnya?)

Did they use to live in that house?

Apa mereka dulu tinggal di rumah itu?

 

Be used to :

´  ‘be accustomed to’ or ‘be familiar with’.

Dalam Bahasa Indonesia bisa diartikan dengan kata “terbiasa.”

It can refer to the past, present or future. We follow be used to with a noun phrase, a pronoun or the -ing form of a verb:

(Be used to ini bisa menunjuk pada suatu kejadian/kondisi/situasi di masa lampau (past), sekarang (present), atau masa depan (future). Be used to diikuti dengan noun phrase (frasa kata benda), kata ganti (pronoun) bentuk kata kerja -ing (gerund/verb-ing)).

For Examples :

She’s used to the city now and doesn’t get lost any more.

(dia terbiasa dengan kota sekarang dan tidak lagi tersesat)

They will be used to working under pressure.

(Mereka akan terbiasa bekerja di bawah tekanan)

I’m a teacher so I’m used to speaking in public.

(aku seorang guru jadi aku terbiasa berbicara di depan publik

Kalimat negatif :

Subject + be +not+ Used to + object (v-ing, noun phrase, pronoun)

For Examples :

 
She’s not used to it

(dia tidak terbiasa dengan itu)

 He wasn’t used to walking so much and his legs hurt after the hike.

(dia tidak terbiasa banyak jalan dan kakinya sakit setelah mendaki)

I’m not used to eating alone

(aku tidak terbiasa makan sendiri)

Kalimat Introgatif (tanya) :

´  Be + subject + Used to + object (v-ing, noun phrase, pronoun)

´  For Examples :

Was she used to speaking rude like that?

(Apa dia terbiasa berbicara kasar seperti itu?

Is he used to a cat?

(apa dia terbiasa dengan kucing?)

Are they used to swimming in a lake?

(Apakah mereka terbiasa berenang di danau?)

Get used to :

´  We use get used to to talk about the process of becoming familiar with something.  

Maksudnya bisa diartikan bahwa penggunaan get used to itu berarti “mulai terbiasa” “menjadi terbiasa.”

For Examples :  

I’m finding this new job hard but I’m sure I’ll get used to it soon.

(Aku merasa kerjaan baru ini sulit tapi aku yakin akan segera terbiasa dengannya.)

She’s getting used to the city now, the first time she moved, she used to get lost. 

(Dia menjadi terbiasa dengan kota sekarang. Awal pertama pindah, dulu dia biasa tersesat.
